- Kevin Hassett – Director of the National Economic Council
- Kevin Warsh – Former Federal Reserve Governor
- Rick Rieder – Chief Investment Officer of Fixed Income at BlackRock
Next Steps in the Selection Process
Bessent plans to conduct further interviews within the next few weeks. These sessions may not commence until after Thanksgiving due to scheduling conflicts.
Post-interviews, Bessent will brief President Trump, who will make the final selection. The chosen candidate is likely to be nominated as a Federal Reserve Governor before being elevated to the Chair position.
Timeline for Appointment
The new Chair’s appointment could take place as early as January. Powell’s current term as Chair will conclude in May, although he will remain a Governor until January 31, 2028.
