Peter Hickman and 8TEN Racing Exit 2026 BSB Championship

Peter Hickman and the 8TEN Racing team have officially exited the 2026 BSB Championship. This decision comes as both Hickman and his co-owner, Davey Todd, aim to prioritize their recovery and ensure a strong return in 2027.
Reasons Behind Withdrawal from 2026 BSB Championship
The 8TEN Racing team faced numerous challenges in the current season. Hickman suffered multiple injuries, including chest, back, shoulder, and facial injuries, due to a crash at the 2025 Isle of Man TT. Despite making a comeback with four podium finishes earlier this month, his struggles in the BSB were significant.
- Hickman experienced difficulties due to variations in bike specifications.
- Both riders have dealt with serious injuries impacting their performance.
Pursuing Future Competitiveness
Speaking about the decision, Hickman expressed the need to focus on returning to full competitiveness. He acknowledged that the differences in the bike specs at BSB have made progress challenging. Hickman stated, “It’s obviously been a difficult call, but the priority is to get back to where I know I can be.”
The aim is to return both Hickman and Todd to a level where they can compete effectively. Todd, who missed the 2026 North West 200 and Isle of Man TT due to a crash at the Daytona 200, has also decided to sit out the BSB season and target a return in 2027.
Support from BMW Motorrad
Sven Blusch, Head of Motorsport at BMW Motorrad, commented on the situation. He expressed understanding and support for Hickman and Todd’s decision, noting, “It’s been a tough first half of the year for both Peter and Davey.” Blusch emphasized the importance of the British Superbike Championship, stating that BMW Motorrad remains committed to the series for this season and beyond.
As Hickman and Todd take a step back in 2026, fans can expect their return in 2027, stronger and ready to compete at the highest level.
