Cyprus Aims to Lead European Gaming Regulation

Cyprus is positioning itself as a significant player in European gaming regulation. The Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission (CGCA) recently launched a national campaign titled “Take Control.” This initiative aims to foster responsible gambling and informed decision-making among players.
CGCA’s Progress in Gaming Regulation
Chairman Pieris Chourides announced that the CGCA has made remarkable strides in multiple areas over the past two years. These areas include:
- Enhanced supervision practices
- Improved transparency
- Strengthened institutional development
- Increased international engagement
Chourides noted that Cyprus’s influence in gaming regulation was further recognized when it was selected to host the annual Gaming Regulators European Forum (GREF) conference. He stated, “This recognition highlights the CGCA’s contributions to modern regulatory practices in Europe.”
Focus on Responsible Gaming
The CGCA is committed to advancing regulatory oversight and implementing effective responsible gaming measures. They have also prioritized anti-money laundering controls and collaboration with both European and international organizations. Executive Director Charis Tsangarides stressed the importance of player protection and a robust regulatory framework for the casino sector.
Introduction of the Metron Funding Programme
To bolster these efforts, the CGCA has introduced the Metron funding programme. This initiative is designed to support various projects aimed at:
- Preventing problematic gambling
- Enhancing public protection
- Implementing evidence-based interventions
Through these initiatives, the CGCA aims to lead the way in European gaming regulation while ensuring that players can engage safely and responsibly in gaming activities.
