US Sprint Champion Withdraws from Royal Ascot

Cy Fair, a prominent American sprinter, has officially withdrawn from the highly anticipated Royal Ascot meeting. This decision comes after the three-year-old filly did not meet expectations during her training. Trained by George Weaver, Cy Fair previously showcased her talent by winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Del Mar last October.
Withdrawn from King Charles III Stakes
Originally scheduled to compete in the King Charles III Stakes, Cy Fair was considered a strong contender with odds at 16-1. Despite this potential, concerns about her recent performance led her team to withdraw. Medallion Racing, co-owners of the filly alongside Swinbank Stables, stated, “George felt she hadn’t been acting like her usual self over the past few days.”
In an effort to prioritize her well-being, the team decided to skip her final practice session ahead of the race. They expressed their commitment to her health, affirming that Cy Fair is completely sound and that they aim for her to return to training soon.
Recent Performance and Future Plans
Prior to this setback, Cy Fair had an impressive performance, winning the Grade 3 Mamzelle Stakes at Churchill Downs in April. Her withdrawal comes at a time when her trainer, George Weaver, was looking to build upon his success at Royal Ascot, particularly following the victory of Crimson Advocate in the Queen Mary Stakes earlier this year.
Crimson Advocate has since made headlines, being acquired by Wathnan Racing and moving to the care of trainers John and Thady Gosden. She continued her success at last year’s Royal Ascot by winning the Duke of Cambridge Stakes.

Despite Cy Fair’s withdrawal, the King Charles III Stakes retains a competitive lineup, featuring notable international competitors. Leading contenders include:

- Joliestar (4)
- Night Raider (8)
- Reyevka (10)

- Outfielder (25)
- Big Mojo (25)
- Jakajaro (25)

The Royal Ascot meeting will take place on June 16 and promises to attract a global audience, showcasing the best in horse racing.
