Dawn French Teases Bold Reunion with Genius Jennifer Saunders

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, two beloved comedy icons, are set for a significant reunion this Christmas. For the first time in 17 years, the duo will perform together at the London Palladium in the traditional pantomime production of Cinderella. During an exclusive interview, French expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming show, labeling it the “naughtiest thing” she has ever participated in.
Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders: A Long-Awaited Pantomime Reunion
French announced, “Jennifer and I are going to be doing panto together this Christmas!” They will portray the Ugly Sisters in the classic fairy tale. While this marks the first collaboration for the pair at the London Palladium, they have each performed in pantomimes there before.
A Dash of Innuendo
The performance’s naughtiness will be amplified by Julian Clary’s role as the Fairy Godfather. French indicated that his performance is expected to include many innuendos, enhancing the humor of the show. “The script for Cinderella is genius – it will be a kind of festive variety show,” she explained.
Reflecting on Comedy Partnerships
At 68 years old, French shared insights gained from her longstanding career in comedy partnerships. She emphasized the importance of patience and forgiveness, stating, “Everything is forgivable when you work with someone you love.”
A New Literary Venture: “Enough”
In addition to her highly anticipated reunion with Saunders, French has been busy working on her fifth novel, titled “Enough.” The book’s protagonist, Etta, is a grandmother who has decided it is her last day on Earth, believing it will benefit her family.
French describes how Etta’s decision stems from a sense of pride and the difficulty of reversing such a monumental choice. She noted the mixed reactions her friends had after reading the book, which explores heavy themes of life and death.
