Traffic Chaos Engulfs Bank Holiday Travelers After Accidents

Travelers faced significant traffic chaos this bank holiday due to multiple accidents on major roads. Two separate incidents occurred on the M2, causing considerable delays and road closures.

Accidents on the M2

A stretch of the M2 was closed to facilitate the landing of an air ambulance. This closure was necessary after a collision involving a car and a motorcyclist between Junction 5 for Key Street and Junction 6 for Faversham.

As reported by National Highways, both lanes were impacted, leading to roughly three miles of traffic congestion on the coastbound side.

Details of the Incidents

  • Date: May 25
  • First Accident: Occurred in the morning near the A249 turn-off for Sittingbourne and Stockbury Roundabout.
  • Second Accident: Happened shortly after the first, involving emergency services and the air ambulance.

Traffic on Other Routes

On the M25, there were also delays after an accident near Junction 2 of the A2 Darenth Interchange. This incident has since begun to ease, providing some relief to travelers in the area.

M20 Conditions

  • Time: Just after 12 PM
  • Delays: 30-minute delays reported due to multiple broken down vehicles between Junction 5 for Maidstone and Junction 9 for Ashford.
  • Status: Delays cleared by 1:30 PM; all vehicles were recovered.

Additional Incidents

Meanwhile, the A2 near Dartford experienced lane blockage due to a two-car accident. Traffic was building up but was cleared not long after the incident.

Earlier in the day, another accident on the A2 coast-bound near Southfleet involved three vehicles. Emergency responders, including two fire engines, had to cut one person from their car. This accident led to additional road closures.

Emergency Response

Emergency services were quick to respond to each of the accidents, working diligently to ensure the safety of all involved. National Highways confirmed the timely reopening of affected routes.

Travelers are advised to remain vigilant and consider alternative routes during busy holiday periods to avoid further delays.
