Wales Players Advocate for Peace, Support Language Diversity with Urdd
Wales is witnessing a significant movement toward peace and the celebration of linguistic diversity, led by the Urdd, a prominent youth organization. Established in 1922, the Urdd has grown to become one of Europe’s largest youth organizations, with participation from tens of thousands of young individuals engaged in various Welsh-language activities.
Upcoming Eisteddfod in Anglesey
The Urdd’s annual Eisteddfod will take place in Anglesey from May 23 to 29, 2024. This event serves as a cornerstone for Welsh culture and language, attracting numerous participants and audiences.
Traditional Peace Message
Each year, the Urdd delivers a peace message that reflects pressing global issues. This tradition has been maintained since the organization’s inception. Over the years, themes have included:
- Child poverty
- Anti-racism
- Climate emergency
- Gender equality
For the year 2026, the theme will center around the slogan “peace speaks every language.” This initiative emphasizes the importance of preserving minority, regional, and indigenous languages worldwide.
Advocacy and Language Diversity
The Urdd’s commitment to peace advocacy goes hand in hand with its support for language diversity. By fostering an environment that prioritizes the importance of various languages, the organization aligns itself with global efforts to maintain cultural heritage.
As Wales continues to champion these values, the work of the Urdd resonates beyond its borders, promoting a global message of peace and inclusion.
