Watford Rehires Javi Gracia After Dismissing Paulo Pezzolano

Watford Football Club has reappointed Javi Gracia as their head coach, following the dismissal of Paulo Pezzolano. This marks a significant return for Gracia, who previously managed the club from January 2018 until September 2019.
Javi Gracia’s Coaching History at Watford
During his initial tenure at Watford, Gracia achieved remarkable milestones. His 20-month time with the Hornets remains the longest for any manager in the last 14 years. Under his leadership, the team secured their best-ever Premier League finish, coming in 11th place.
- Best Premier League Finish: 11th place
- Reached FA Cup Final: Lost 6-0 to Manchester City
Previous Dismissal and Return to Watford
Gracia parted ways with Watford in 2019 while the team was in a difficult position at the bottom of the Premier League. His dismissal led to the return of Quique Sanchez Flores, a decision that was short-lived as Flores was let go after just three months.
Gracia’s most recent managerial role was at Leeds United, where he was released in May 2023 after a brief stint of only 12 matches.
Upcoming Challenges
As the newly appointed coach, Gracia will start working with the squad immediately. His first match back in charge will be against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday, October 18.
