Victoria Day Parade Expected to Break Participant Record Monday

The 2026 Thrifty Foods Victoria Day Parade is set to become a historic event, with over 4,000 participants expected to take part. This year’s parade will kick off from the B.C. legislature and proceed to Chatham Street starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, marking a significant increase in participation compared to last year’s 3,800 attendees.

Record Participation in the Victoria Day Parade

This year’s parade promises to break records despite a shorter route of 1.6 kilometers. The previous long-standing route along Douglas Street has been altered for safety reasons, following tragic events at the Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver last year. The change is aimed at ensuring the safety of all participants and attendees.

Route Details

  • The parade will travel along:
    • Government Street
    • Wharf Street
    • Johnson Street
    • Ending at Chatham Street

Previously, nearly 100 entries were registered, but this year’s total has decreased to 88. These entries include a variety of floats, bands, and dance groups. Notably, some groups from other canceled local parades are joining the festivities.

Honoring Special Guests

Bob Barlow, a former NHL player recognized for scoring the league’s fastest first goal, will serve as the honorary parade marshal. At 90 years old, Barlow will ride in a convertible Mustang at the parade’s forefront.

Special Features of the Parade

  • Participation from local fire departments and police to support the Special Olympics athletes.
  • A spectacular float from the Penticton Peach Festival.
  • Participants include the B.C. Aviation Museum and the Legendary Sikh Riders motorcycle team.

To build excitement for the event, residents can attend the Parade of Bands and Epic Drum Battle today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the legislature. Performers will include marching bands, the Stages Dance Company, the Victoria Morris Dancers, and the University of Washington Husky Drumline.

This year’s Victoria Day Parade is anticipated to deliver a memorable experience, showcasing community spirit and cultural diversity.
