IPL 2026: Abhishek Sharma Targets Major SRH Milestone, Needs 59 Runs

In the 2026 IPL season, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s opener Abhishek Sharma is on the verge of a significant milestone. As they prepare to face Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sharma needs only 59 runs to become the fourth player in franchise history to score 2,000 runs.
Abhishek Sharma’s Path to 2,000 Runs
Currently, Sharma has accumulated 1,941 runs in 80 matches for SRH. This achievement would place him alongside an exclusive group of high-performing players, including:
- David Warner – 4,014 runs
- Shikhar Dhawan – 2,768 runs
- Kane Williamson – 2,101 runs
Sharma would be the second Indian batter, after Dhawan, to reach this milestone with the franchise.
Sharma’s Record-Breaking Performances
Sharma already holds the record for the highest individual score for SRH. His explosive 141 off 55 balls against Punjab Kings last season set a new benchmark for both SRH and Indian players in IPL history. This innings helped propel SRH to chase down a daunting total of 246 runs.
IPL 2026: A Mixed Start
This season, Abhishek Sharma has had a varied performance, amassing 188 runs across six innings. His top score so far has been 74. Despite facing inconsistencies, his ability to change the game’s dynamics makes him an essential player for SRH.
Match Preview: SRH vs DC
Sunrisers Hyderabad, currently sitting fourth in the league standings, aim to secure their third consecutive victory against Delhi Capitals. The team is riding high on confidence following back-to-back wins, including a successful defense of 194 runs against Chennai Super Kings. Key contributions came from bowlers Eshan Malinga, Nitish Reddy, Sakib Hussain, and Shivang Kumar. Although Praful Hinge had an off day, his performance in crucial moments remains a positive.
However, the batting lineup has been somewhat inconsistent. The approach taken by openers Sharma and Travis Head has produced mixed results, making Heinrich Klaasen’s contributions even more critical as he currently holds the Orange Cap. Support from Ishan Kishan and the middle order will be crucial for SRH’s success in the upcoming match.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals sit fifth on the table. They recently bounced back from two losses with a decisive win over RCB, led by KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs, with David Miller sealing the victory. Historically, the Capitals have fared well against SRH in Hyderabad, winning two of the last three encounters at the venue.
