Grand National Winner Noble Yeats Passes at 11 After Colic Bout

Grand National winner Noble Yeats has sadly passed away at the age of 11. The beloved horse died due to complications from colic shortly after the fourth anniversary of his impressive Aintree victory.
Noble Yeats’ Triumph
Noble Yeats was notable for his stunning win in the 2022 Grand National, where he competed at remarkable odds of 50-1. He was ridden by Sam Waley-Cohen, wearing the silks of his father, Robert Waley-Cohen. The Waley-Cohen family and trainer Emmet Mullins celebrated this extraordinary achievement.
Health Issues and Final Days
While enjoying retirement at a stud in Oxfordshire, Noble Yeats developed colic, a serious gastrointestinal condition. On Wednesday, the horse showed signs of discomfort, prompting immediate veterinary care. Despite round-the-clock treatment, he could not be saved and was sadly euthanized on Thursday morning.
Remarks from Robert Waley-Cohen
Robert Waley-Cohen expressed his sorrow, stating, “It was a grim moment.” He reflected on Noble Yeats’ happy retirement with other horses, highlighting the joy the horse brought their family. “The memories of the National are unbelievable,” he added. Winning the Grand National was a lifelong dream for him and his son Sam.
Legacy and Achievements
Noble Yeats left a significant mark in the racing world. He not only won the Grand National but also secured victories in the 2022 Many Clouds Chase and the 2024 Cleeve Hurdle. His lifetime record included seven wins out of 24 races, accumulating over £750,000 in prize money.
Memorial Plans
To honor Noble Yeats, the Waley-Cohen family plans to plant a tree on their farm near Banbury, where they will lay him to rest. Just two days before his death, the family celebrated another achievement with a horse named Numero Ventotto, which was born on the same date as Noble Yeats’ Grand National win.
Final Appearance
Noble Yeats’ last race was at the 2024 Savills Hurdle at Leopardstown, where he was pulled up due to arthritis issues. His legacy as a remarkable competitor will be remembered, and he will always be regarded as a special horse in the hearts of those who knew him.
