About “Drop Dead” and Its Theme
The song features Rodrigo exploring themes of infatuation, describing the experience of quietly stalking a crush from bed. In a playful nod to astrology, she mentions her crush being a Gemini while she identifies as a Pisces. Throughout the video, she showcases her love for the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” all while twirling around a picture-perfect setting with a pink guitar and matching headphones.
Collaboration and Creative Team
Produced by Dan Nigro, “Drop Dead” benefits from the collaborative efforts of co-writer Amy Allen. Rodrigo expressed her artistic vision for the album in a recent newsletter, stating, “No matter how hard I try to write love songs, they always come out laced with a little melancholy.”
