New Playground for Toddlers Planned

The city of Mamers in Sarthe is planning a new playground specifically designed for toddlers. This initiative was discussed during the municipal council meeting held on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

Funding for the New Playground

During the meeting, the council unanimously approved the allocation of funds from the early childhood service. According to a law passed on December 18, 2023, cities with over 3,500 residents are entitled to financial compensation. This applies even when early childhood management is delegated to community authorities.

In December 2025, Mamers received a total of €28,456.38 as part of this compensation. The council decided to return 50% of this amount back to the residents.

Community Needs and Requests

Sandrine Plessix, the assistant responsible for health, education, and civic matters, emphasized the importance of playground space. Although the responsibility for young child care has been transferred to the Maine Saosnois community, there is a significant demand for public play areas for children aged 0 to 3 years.

  • Funding Received: €28,456.38
  • Percentage Returned: 50%
  • Target Age Group: 0 to 3 years

Proposed Location for the Playground

The initial proposal suggests placing the new toddler playground at Jaillé Park. This location currently houses equipment for older children, highlighting a need for inclusive facilities for younger ones.

However, the details of this project will need further refinement by the council commission before moving forward.
