Ohio State Tops AP Poll; Texas, Penn State Drop from Rank

In the latest Associated Press college football poll, Ohio State remains at the top. The Buckeyes secured 40 first-place votes, although this marked a decrease from previous weeks. Miami (Fla.) climbed to No. 2, experiencing a surge in first-place votes following a victory against Florida State.

Key Rankings Changes

The poll saw significant shifts this week, particularly affecting Texas and Penn State. Both teams, previously ranked in the top 10, fell from the rankings entirely after losing to unranked opponents. This is the first time since 2022 that they are unranked.

Historic Ranking Drops

Penn State’s drop marked one of the most significant falls in the poll’s history. They entered the UCLA game as 24.5-point favorites but ultimately lost 42-37. This is Penn State’s first absence from the rankings since September 2022. Their decline mirrors Oklahoma’s fall in 1959, which dropped from No. 2 to outside the top 20.

In addition, the Texas Longhorns dropped out after their loss to Florida. Their defeat at Florida, with a score of 29-21, marks the end of their ranked status, which they maintained since November 2022.
