Usain Bolt’s 100m World Record Set to Fall This Year

Usain Bolt’s remarkable 100-meter world record, set at 9.58 seconds, could be surpassed this year, according to sports experts. Bolt achieved this record during the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Berlin, where he also established a 200-meter record of 19.19 seconds.
Current Sprint Competitors
Despite numerous attempts, no athlete has managed to break Bolt’s nearly 16-year-old 100m record. Olympic champion Noah Lyles, for instance, boasts a personal best of 9.79 seconds, which he achieved at the 2024 Paris Games. Additionally, fellow Jamaican sprinters Oblique Seville and Kishane Thompson have clocked impressive times of 9.77 seconds.
Humanoid Robots and the Future of Sprinting
Interestingly, advancements in technology have led to the development of humanoid robots. Wang Xingxing, the CEO of Unitree Robotics, predicts that these robots may soon run the 100 meters in under 9.58 seconds. “By mid-year, humanoid robots globally — especially in China — may run faster than humans,” Wang said at the Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum.
What Are Humanoid Robots?
- Designed to resemble the human body.
- Equipped with artificial intelligence for navigation.
- Potential uses in warehouses, construction sites, and emergency response.
Usain Bolt’s Thoughts on His Record
In a 2025 interview with ESPN, Bolt stated he is not concerned about someone breaking his record soon. “The talent is there; there will be talented athletes coming up, and they will do well. But at this present moment, I don’t see any athlete able to break the record,” he remarked.
Upcoming Talents
Among those viewed as potential challengers is young Australian sprinter Gout Gout. At only 18, he has already achieved remarkable times, including equalizing the fastest legal 100m run by an Australian on home soil with a time of 10.00 seconds.
Backing Emerging Athletes
Bolt believes in the abilities of his fellow competitors. He expressed confidence in Oblique Seville as a strong contender to break his world record. “If he can stay fit during the season and get it right, I feel he can do it,” he noted in a discussion on The Fix Podcast.
With the combination of emerging talent and technological advances, the possibility of surpassing Usain Bolt’s 100-meter world record this year is an exciting prospect in the world of athletics.
