Kia Unveils New EV3, Expanding Affordable Electric Vehicle Lineup

Kia has launched the new EV3, a subcompact SUV designed to make electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible to Canadian consumers. This model was unveiled at the 2026 New York International Auto Show on April 1, 2026.

Kia EV3 Overview

The EV3 slots into Kia’s lineup beneath the compact EV4 hatchback and the EV5 SUV. It aims to appeal to a broad audience, particularly those seeking affordability in the EV market.

Pricing and Positioning

  • The EV4 starts at $38,995, making it the most affordable EV in Canada.
  • The EV3 is expected to launch in the low $40,000 range, with official pricing yet to be confirmed.
  • This model is the final addition to Kia’s line of affordable EVs, designed to mirror the features of higher-end models.

Performance Specifications

The Kia EV3 utilizes the E-GMP 400-volt architecture, in contrast to the 800-volt systems found in the EV6 and EV9. It will be available in two battery options:

  • 58.3 kilowatt-hours (kWh)
  • 81.4 kWh

In optimal conditions, the EV3 can achieve:

  • 482 kilometers of range with the larger battery
  • 354 kilometers with the smaller one

Model Variants and Features

The base model, called “Light,” features the smaller battery and a front-wheel drive single motor. All other trims will include an all-wheel-drive option, with the top-tier GT model offering:

  • 201 horsepower for front-wheel-drive variants
  • 266 horsepower for dual-motor all-wheel drive
  • Up to 288 horsepower for the GT trim

All versions can fast charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. They will also feature a standard NACS port for charging at Tesla Supercharger stations.

Design and Technology

The aerodynamic design of the EV3 contributes to its efficiency, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.26. This is impressive for a subcompact SUV. The interior includes:

  • Two 12.3-inch display screens
  • A smaller 5.3-inch screen for climate controls
  • Optional premium Harmon Kardon sound system
  • 12-inch head-up display

With seating for five, the EV3 offers 740 liters of cargo space, complemented by additional storage features that are rare in compact vehicles.

Market Context

In a competitive EV marketplace, the Kia EV3 joins other affordable options like the redesigned Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt, and new Toyota C-HR, all priced below $50,000. It’s anticipated that the EV3 may emerge as one of the most affordable new electric SUVs available.

The EV3 is scheduled to go on sale in Canada this summer, with full pricing details to be announced ahead of its release.
