Municipales: Candidate Accused of Domestic Violence Expelled from Party

Dani Muzungu, a 26-year-old candidate for Futur Montréal, was arrested on Wednesday after a domestic violence incident in Hampstead. This occurred shortly before 4 PM when Montreal police received a 911 call regarding an injured woman at an apartment on Glenmore Avenue. The victim was transported to the hospital, though her injuries were not life-threatening.
Charges Against Dani Muzungu
Muzungu faces multiple charges, including:
- Aggravated assault
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Choking and suffocation
- Threats
He has been detained and appeared in court on Thursday to respond to these allegations. A bail hearing is scheduled for Friday.
Futur Montréal’s Response
Following the incident, Futur Montréal has expelled Muzungu from its ranks. The party expressed its shock and disappointment in a statement, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable within its organization or public life.
Previously, Muzungu had been portrayed by the party as a legal professional and a commissioner specializing in conflict resolution, focusing on enhancing safety around the Snowdon metro area.
Immediate Actions Taken by the Party
Jean-François Kacou, the party leader and mayoral candidate, stated that they immediately acted upon learning of the incident. The party has requested that Elections Montréal remove Muzungu from the candidate list. Kacou also conveyed his support for the victim by expressing sympathy and commitment to ensuring such behavior will not be tolerated.
This incident raises serious concerns about candidates’ conduct and the implications of domestic violence within political contexts.
