The recent crackdown on the DZ Mafia marks a significant achievement in combating organized crime in France. A comprehensive investigation led to 26 individuals being charged, with authorities seizing assets exceeding €4 million.
Operation “Octopus” Targets DZ Mafia
In a major operation that unfolded in March 2026, around 900 gendarmes were deployed to dismantle the notorious DZ Mafia. This criminal organization, primarily focused on drug trafficking, was targeted across six departments in France, with Marseille and the Bouches-du-Rhône region being key locations.
Charges and Arrests
- 26 individuals charged, including nine women.
- 15 individuals are currently incarcerated.
- 11 individuals are under judicial supervision.
Notable figures among those charged include three alleged leaders of the DZ Mafia: Amine O. (also known as Mamine), Gabriel O. (Gabi), and Madhi Z. (often referred to as “La Brute”). They are already serving time in high-security prisons. Additionally, the rapper Dika faces allegations of laundering drug money, while a Lyon-based lawyer, Kamel A., is accused of providing phone access to one of the group’s leaders from prison.
Significant Seizures
The operation resulted in the confiscation of numerous luxury vehicles and 12 properties valued at over €2.4 million. According to Nicolas Bessone, the public prosecutor of Marseille, the total seized assets include:
- €4 million in cash and cryptocurrencies.
- 12 real estate properties.
- Seized funds from various banking accounts.
Criminal Activities Uncovered
The investigation revealed a sophisticated network engaged not only in drug trafficking but also in extorting local businesses and artists in the Marseille rap scene. The organization used music production labels as a front for their illicit activities.
As the probe continues, authorities indicate that this is merely the beginning. The DZ Mafia remains under close scrutiny as investigators work tirelessly to uncover more aspects of this criminal enterprise.
