Quebec Company Revitalizes Flavored Toothpick

A innovative flavored toothpick concept is gaining traction in Quebec, introduced by entrepreneur François-Étienne Boivin. His company, Fling, aims to transform the concept of toothpicks into functional tools for habit management. This offering is particularly intended for individuals trying to replace habits such as nail-biting, vaping, or candy consumption.

Concept and Development of Flavored Toothpicks

François-Étienne Boivin established Fling to promote flavored toothpicks as more than ordinary items. His vision is for them to act as practical tools for habit alteration. He draws inspiration from James Clear’s popular book, “Atomic Habits,” which emphasizes the power of replacing negative habits.

The toothpicks are made from birch wood, a material known for its ability to absorb and retain flavors effectively. The research and development phase lasted approximately one year, collaborating with chemists to ensure food-grade quality and optimal flavor infusion.

Flavors and Target Audience

Since its launch in September 2025, Fling has offered five distinct flavors:

  • Mint Ice
  • Cinnamon Burst
  • Cola Chill
  • Juicy Peach
  • Melon Splash

The brand targets adults aged 18 to 45, appealing to both men and women. A significant focus is placed on younger demographics to provide an alternative to vaping.

Addressing Vaping Concerns

Boivin recognizes the challenges posed by vaping among youth in Quebec. He notes that current market alternatives are scarce and that Fling provides a simple, socially accepted option with a rebellious branding. This branding connects with urban youth culture, making the product more appealing.

Boivin’s intention is to create a “cool” product that reshapes perceptions, offering users a “badass” experience reminiscent of film characters.

Unique Packaging and Hygiene Features

Each Fling package contains 25 toothpicks, designed with a single pointed end for hygienic removal and to create a distinctive identity for the product. This feature differentiates Fling from traditional toothpicks, which have two sharp ends.

Distribution and Sales Growth

As of now, Fling is available in over a dozen retail locations across Quebec. Boivin reports that online sales have increased since the launch, and distribution partnerships are developing steadily.
