Zack Polanski Advocates for Legalizing All Drugs

Zack Polanski, the leader of the Green Party, is advocating for the legalization of all drugs. He emphasizes that this strategy should be driven by public health experts rather than political figures. His proposals come as the Green Party prepares for its conference in Bournemouth.

Zack Polanski’s Stance on Drug Legalization

In an interview with BBC South East, Polanski voiced his support for a Kent Green councillor’s earlier call to legalize all substances, including class A drugs such as heroin and crack cocaine. He argues that the current “war on drugs” has failed.

Polanski stated, “We need to be implementing a public health approach.” He highlighted the financial burden taxpayers face due to crime associated with illegal drug markets and gang activities across county lines.

Economic Impact and Public Safety

  • Taxpayers currently fund policing and legal actions related to illegal drug trades.
  • Illegal markets contribute to crime rates and violence, particularly from organized gangs.
  • Polanski criticized political leaders for ignoring the realities of drug misuse.

He commented on the longstanding issue: “For far too long, Prime Ministers have stuck their heads in the sand.”

The Green Party’s Recent Developments

The Green Party, which is experiencing increasing success in local elections, is holding its first autumn conference under a new leadership team. This includes deputy co-leaders Mothin Ali and Rachel Millward.

In recent local elections, the party has gained traction in regions traditionally dominated by Conservative votes, including Wealden, Reigate, and Maidstone in Kent, Sussex, and Surrey.

As the party gathers to discuss future policies, Polanski’s push for comprehensive drug legalization stands out as a significant part of their agenda.
