Senators Rally in Third to Defeat Flames, Extend Streak to Five Games

The Ottawa Senators showcased their resilience as they rallied in the third period, defeating the Calgary Flames 4-1 at home. This win marked the Senators’ fifth consecutive victory, underscoring their upward momentum in the NHL.

Game Highlights

Calgary struck first with a goal from Vasily Pospisil at 17:04 in the first period. Pospisil’s wrist shot, assisted by Matvei Gridin, deflected off Ottawa’s goaltender, Jeremy Ullmark. This goal marked Pospisil’s first of the season in his tenth game, returning from a two-game healthy scratch.

“It was a pretty tight game until the end,” Pospisil remarked after the game. “We need to find a way to score key goals. Our energy levels must improve.”

Key Goals in the Second Period

The tide turned in the second period when Lars Eller tied the game 1-1 at 9:35. Eller connected on a one-timer from Ridly Greig, shooting from the top of the right face-off circle. “A lot of times it’s about doing the work that leads to those looks,” Eller noted.

Third Period Surge

In the closing moments, the Senators solidified their lead. Tim Stutzle scored a short-handed goal at 17:59, pushing the score to 3-1. Shane Pinto added to the tally with an empty-net goal at 19:46, finalizing the score at 4-1.

“I had many opportunities tonight, but their goalie made some great saves,” Stutzle stated. “It was a great team effort and those points are crucial for us.” Stutzle has now extended his point streak to 11 games, including seven goals and eight assists. This achievement makes him the first Senators player to record two 11-game point streaks within a season, previously having a 13-game streak from December 9 to January 5.

Recent Trades

In other news, the Senators officially traded forward David Perron to the Detroit Red Wings for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Perron has contributed 25 points this season, comprising 10 goals and 15 assists over 49 games.

The Senators continue to build momentum, and as they extend their winning streak, fans remain hopeful for a strong season ahead.
