Honoring International Women’s Day: Celebrating Achievements Worldwide

As International Women’s Day (IWD) approaches on March 8, numerous events will take place across the city to honor women’s achievements. For over a century, IWD has served as a platform to recognize the struggles and accomplishments of women worldwide. This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” emphasizes the importance of generosity and collaboration in advancing women’s rights and equity.
Understanding the Theme: “Give to Gain”
The “Give to Gain” theme encourages individuals and organizations to contribute to women’s advancement through various means. These can include:
- Donations
- Knowledge sharing
- Resource provision
- Visibility and advocacy
- Education and training
- Mentoring and time investment
By supporting women and girls, we can help create a more equitable society. Individuals can participate by challenging stereotypes and celebrating women’s successes.
Local Leaders Speak Out
Brighton & Hove Council leader Bella Sankey expressed her wish for a wonderful IWD to all women in the area and beyond. She reinforced the need for community investment in women’s opportunities.
Sankey noted that the results of such investments are visible across various fields, including education and sports. She emphasized the importance of IWD in both celebrating achievements and recognizing ongoing challenges faced by women.
