Samuel de Champlain Park Partially Reopens This Spring

Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park is set to partially reopen this spring, providing a boost to both campers and the local economy. Following a severe storm last summer, significant efforts have been made to restore the park, which will now serve as an appealing year-round destination.
Provincial Investment in Park Restoration
In November, the provincial government announced a substantial investment of $4.74 million aimed at rebuilding and upgrading the park. This strategic move is designed to enhance the park’s appeal, transforming it into a site that attracts visitors throughout the year.
Economic Benefits
Todd McCarthy, the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, emphasized the importance of this investment. He stated, “We’re making this strategic investment to turn the park into a year-round destination to attract visitors, support local jobs, and build a strong, resilient local economy.”
Restoration Efforts
Despite expectations that the park would remain closed until 2027, progress has accelerated. According to Environment Ontario, restoration initiatives are actively addressing the storm’s aftermath by enhancing the park’s natural beauty and repairing crucial infrastructure, including roadways.
Partial Reopening Details
Starting Friday, May 8, select areas of the park will open for day use. The Bagwa Day Use Area and Long Lake are among the sites that visitors can access, and reservations are currently available.
