£22.3m Upgrade Transforms Shifnal Sewage Works; Residents Invited to Update Meeting

Severn Trent is improving the Blymhill Sewage Treatment Works, an initiative valued at £22.3 million. This upgrade aims to enhance the facility’s capacity and environmental safeguards. In light of this, local residents are invited to a drop-in session to learn about the project.
Project Overview and Details
The sewage works are located north of Shifnal, in the hamlet of Brineton. The upgrades include several key components designed to address future demand. These enhancements will also improve the quality of water released from the treatment facility.
- Installation of four new permanent storage tanks, measuring approximately 6 meters in diameter and height.
- New settlement tanks and plant, along with upgraded chemical dosing systems.
- Advanced biological treatment to enhance sewage processing.
- Enhanced sensors for monitoring water quality.
- Upgraded pump stations to support the new systems.
- Implementation of a new inlet screen to manage incoming flows and remove large solids.
Severn Trent has stated that all construction will occur on the existing site. A temporary compound has been established on private land to facilitate the project team. This will also reduce the number of large lorries transporting materials to and from the site, minimizing disruption.
Community Engagement
A drop-in session for residents is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, from 3 PM to 6:30 PM. This meeting will take place at Blymhill Village Hall, located on School Lane, Blymhill (TF11 8LJ). Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with the project team from Severn Trent and contractors, JN Bentley.
Charlene Richards, the community communications officer at Severn Trent, emphasized the importance of community engagement. She stated, “Engaging local communities so residents are aware of the works we’re delivering is central to any large-scale project.”
Construction on the project began in February and is expected to conclude by December 2026. Severn Trent aims to complete the work as efficiently as possible while minimizing disturbances for nearby residents.
