Chichester Festival Theatre Reveals 2026 Season: Atonement, Munya Chawawa, My Fair Lady

Chichester Festival Theatre has unveiled its exciting lineup for the 2026 season, which will run from March to December. The season features a mix of classic adaptations, world premieres, and fresh interpretations.
2026 Season Highlights
The season kicks off with Tom Wells’ adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved tale, The BFG. This production, featuring additional material by Jenny Worton and directed by Daniel Evans, will show in the Festival Theatre from 9 March to 11 April, before transferring to Singapore. The play recently concluded its successful run at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
World Premieres and Adaptations
- Magic: A new play by David Haig, will make its world premiere in the season.
- Eclipse: John Morton’s debut piece, opening in the Minerva Theatre from 8 May to 6 June, delves into family dynamics during a critical moment.
- Atonement: Christopher Hampton adapts Ian McEwan’s novel for the stage, promising a compelling dramatization.
Notable Productions
Geraldine James will debut at Chichester in 45 Years, adapted by Hannah Patterson from the acclaimed film. This production will run from 12 June to 11 July, directed by Prasanna Puwanarajah.
Also taking the stage for the first time is the musical My Fair Lady, a classic that will enthrall audiences.
Contemporary Works and Festive Offerings
Emily White’s Atlantis is scheduled for the Minerva Theatre from 18 July to 15 August, following a successful run at Theatr Clwyd. Furthermore, Stephanie Street’s play, a small and quiet light, tells the story of Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan and runs from 21 August to 12 September before transferring to the Orange Tree Theatre.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, featuring comedian Munya Chawawa in his theatrical debut, is set for the Festival Theatre from 18 September to 17 October. This unique adaptation draws inspiration from 90s rave culture.
Season Finale and Youth Theatre
- Hey! Christmas Tree: A festive show running from 5 to 27 December.
- Peter Pan: Chichester Festival Youth Theatre will present this musical from 14 to 30 December.
Throughout the season, Chichester Festival Theatre will provide 21,000 tickets priced at £10 and £15. Additionally, 10,000 £5 Prologue tickets will be available for audiences aged 16 to 30.
The theatre will continue to showcase performances from emerging artists, along with a variety of engaging events such as talks, backstage tours, and family activities.
