Schwörer Family Embarks on Global Sailing Adventure

The Schwörer family has undertaken an extraordinary global sailing adventure that lasted seven years. Comprising eight members—Dario, Sabina, and their six children—this journey reflects their deep commitment to environmental awareness and exploration.
The Motivation Behind the Adventure
Dario Schwörer, an alpine guide, witnessed firsthand the impact of climate change on glaciers in the Bernina region. This experience inspired him to travel to other areas affected by climate change. Initially, the family planned to climb the highest mountains on each continent, necessitating a sailing vessel for their travels.
The Documentary
Their remarkable journey has been documented in a film co-produced by SSR and directed by Livia Funes. Released last year, it captures the essence of their sailing adventure and the lessons learned along the way.
The Family’s Growth and Experiences
During their time at sea, the Schwörer family welcomed their eldest daughter, Salina, who was born in China following a boat accident. Salina reflected on her unique upbringing, stating, “Growing up on the boat has been a blessing. I feel at home in our 24 square meters.”
The Upcoming Conference
This Friday, Dario Schwörer will give a talk at the University of Italian Switzerland, invited by Andreas Kaufmann, a member of Swiss Sailing. The two met in 2009 when the Schwörer family sought assistance at the Swiss Embassy in Singapore. Kaufmann’s role as a sailor motivated him to help them, leading to this exciting event that highlights the accessibility of sailing.
Financial Aspects and Work during Travel
Living this adventurous lifestyle does come with expenses. The Schwörer family’s official sponsor is Victorinox, which covers much of their budget. Additionally, both Dario and Sabina often work while traveling—Sabina as a nurse and Dario as an alpine guide—allowing them to sustain their journey.
Education and Future Aspirations
Dario believes that nature serves as the best teacher for children, and he feels fortunate to provide his kids with such enriching experiences. His son Noè, now 15, owns a boat and collaborates with Arctic Safety and the Zurich Polytechnic Institute.
Looking Ahead
The Schwörer family remains committed to their sailing lifestyle. They aim to continue exploring the world and inspiring others towards a positive future, driven by their passion for adventure and environmental consciousness.
