Gilles and Poirier Dominate Rhythm Dance at Canadian Figure Skating Championships

Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier excelled at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships, leading after the rhythm dance segment. They scored an impressive 93.11 points, marking their personal best at the national level, while performing to RuPaul’s hit “Supermodel (You Better Work)” at Centre Slush Puppie in Gatineau, Quebec. Their performance received a standing ovation from the audience.

Gilles and Poirier’s Stellar Performance

Gilles expressed their excitement, stating, “We just skated like we were at home.” She emphasized that their preparation and connection during the performance came together beautifully, enhanced by the audience’s enthusiastic reaction.

Competition Overview

The pair are seasoned competitors, holding four national titles and having secured silver medals in the last two World Championships. They are set to compete in their third Olympic Games this February at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Following Gilles and Poirier, Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha stood in second place with a score of 86.93. Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac rounded out the top three with 78.64 points, closely followed by Alicia Fabbri and Paul Ayer, who were just 0.59 points behind.

“We knew it would come down to the free dance,” Ayer commented, hinting at the competitive spirit among the teams.

The Canadian Figure Skating Championships are taking place from January 9 to 11 in Gatineau, QC. The event not only determines Olympic nominations but also showcases the talent of the next generation of Canadian figure skaters.

Men’s and Pairs Competitions

In other competitions, Stephen Gogolev from Toronto led the men’s category after the short program. Additionally, Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps secured the top position in the pairs event.
