Tottenham Aims to Finalize Deal with £200,000-a-Week Star This Week

Tottenham Hotspur is intensifying efforts to secure a new midfielder this week, with Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid as a prime target. Manager Thomas Frank seeks to enhance the midfield options after a challenging start to the current season. Despite fan frustration, the club has yet to make any signings in the January transfer window.

Key Developments in Tottenham’s Transfer Plans

Earlier in the transfer window, Tottenham lost Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace for approximately £35 million. This loss has heightened the urgency for Spurs to find a suitable replacement before the window closes.

Gallagher’s Situation at Atletico Madrid

Gallagher, who has found his first-team opportunities limited under Diego Simeone, is open to a return to the Premier League. Tottenham has made contact with Atletico as they negotiate potential loan or permanent move options.

However, Gallagher’s considerable wage of around £200,000 per week poses a challenge for the deal. Atletico Madrid may expect a substantial portion of his salary to be covered, leaving Spurs to assess their financial standing before committing.

Spurs’ Additional Transfer Targets

In addition to Gallagher, Tottenham has made a formal bid for Souza, a left-back from Santos, estimated at €15 million. This marks Spurs’ second attempt to acquire Souza, with Santos currently reviewing their proposal.

Need for Attacking Reinforcements

Beyond the midfield, Tottenham is also looking for attacking signings. Although the striker department features players like Randal Kolo Muani and Richarlison, the absence of Brennan Johnson has highlighted the need for further reinforcement on the wings.

  • Mohammed Kudus is currently sidelined due to injury.
  • Some of the remaining wide players lack Premier League experience.

As the January transfer window progresses, Tottenham is under pressure to bolster their squad and address both midfield and wide positions effectively.
