Tesla Cuts Costs with New Model 3 Standard

A new entry-level version of the Tesla Model 3, termed the ‘Standard’ variant, is now available in the UK. Customers can place orders starting at £37,990, reflecting a £2,000 reduction from the previous base price. Alternatively, buyers have the option to finance the car from £249 per month.
Tesla Model 3 Standard vs. Competitors
The Tesla Model 3 Standard Pricing places it significantly lower than competitors in the electric vehicle market. For example:
- Polestar 2: £45,160
- BYD Seal: £45,705
- BMW i4: £51,370
Despite its lower price, the Model 3 Standard boasts an impressive range of 332 miles, rivaling those offered by competing models.
Cost and Features
The new Model 3 Standard is also £7,000 cheaper than the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive version, now labeled as ‘Premium.’ While this model sees a reduction in top speed and acceleration, it has achieved the lowest insurance rating among Teslas, classified at group 32 out of 50, which could lead to lowered running costs for owners.
Performance Statistics
The Model 3 Standard accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds, maintaining a competitive performance. Notably, this version follows closely behind the recent release of the Standard edition of the Model Y, which is priced from £41,990.
Interior Modifications and Technology
To achieve its lower price point, certain premium features have been omitted from the Model 3 Standard. The changes include:
- Interior featuring cloth and vegan leather instead of full faux-leather
- Absence of a subwoofer in the sound system
- No ventilated front or heated rear seats
- Removal of FM and AM radio tuner
- No rear touchscreen or ambient lighting
- Manual adjustment for the steering wheel
However, the Model 3 Standard retains critical features, such as the 15.4-inch central touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, a powered tailgate, adaptive headlights, heated front seats, and two wireless charging pads. The vehicle also includes access to Tesla’s Supercharger network and smart features like Dog Mode.
Availability
First deliveries of the new Model 3 Standard are scheduled for the end of February. This new model reflects Tesla’s ongoing strategy to offer more affordable options within its electric vehicle lineup.
