Institute Thrives in Lomé, Togo with Growing Numbers and Purpose

The Institute in Lomé, Togo, is experiencing significant growth, highlighting its role in spiritual education. This surge aligns with the global expansion of the Seminaries and Institutes program by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The program currently offers classes in 38 languages across over 180 countries.
Significant Enrollment Growth
Recent statistics reveal that more than 108,000 new students enrolled in seminary and institute across the globe last year. The total number of participants now exceeds 922,000. Projections indicate that enrollment will soon surpass 1 million, marking a historic high for the program.
Growth in Lomé
In Lomé, Togo, the enrollment figures are nearly double compared to last year. Mensah Ecue-Mathe Robert, the director of the Lomé Institute, emphasizes that growth isn’t just about numbers. He pointed out that the institute has become an integral part of students’ spiritual development.
Transformative Experience for Students
- Increased attendance and deeper connections among students.
- More students are preparing for temple visits and mission service.
- Students report feeling understood and inspired within the institute.
One former student, now a missionary, expressed gratitude for his time in the institute, noting its profound impact on his current mission. Mensah highlighted how students view the institute as a “spiritual refuge,” where they can openly share their thoughts and feelings.
Community Engagement and Learning
In addition to spiritual education, students are engaging in service projects and social activities. A recent devotional saw 200 young single adults from Lomé come together to explore their faith and strengthen their relationship with the Savior. Poda Diornité, the regional director for the Africa West Area, noted the potential of these young adults as future leaders of Togo.
Building a Spiritual Foundation
Beyond doctrinal teachings, the institute plays a vital role in applying gospel principles to real-life challenges, be it in education, careers, or personal relationships. Mensah asserts that participation in the institute fosters the spiritual growth necessary to navigate life’s complexities.
The developments at the Lomé Institute reflect a broader trend of thriving spiritual education within the community, reinforcing the importance of the institute in shaping the future leaders of Togo.
