Charlie Woods Shines on Day 1 of 2026 Junior Orange Bowl

Charlie Woods has made a remarkable return to competitive golf at the 62nd Junior Orange Bowl International Championships. This prestigious event is being held at the historic Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida. Having recently led his high school team to a state championship, Woods is eager to showcase his skills on an international stage.

Day 1 Performance

On Saturday, Charlie Woods finished the opening round with a score of 73, which is 1 over par. This placed him tied for 21st in a competitive field of 84 golfers, consisting of 48 males and 36 females. His performance attracted significant attention, especially from his family, including golf icon Tiger Woods and his mother, Elin Nordegren.

Notable Moments

One highlight from Charlie’s round occurred at the 11th hole. After finding himself under a tree, he faced a challenging shot. His attempt to escape hit a root and sent the ball flying upwards, nearly hitting him. Instead of succumbing to the pressure, Woods skillfully navigated the situation, made it onto the green, and sank a long putt for par. Tiger Woods was impressed, praising his son’s effort with, “Hell of a shot.”

Woods’s Background and Rankings

Charlie holds the No. 13 ranking in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings. After a breakout season, he earned first-team All-America honors and celebrated his first AJGA victory. His impressive performance also helped The Benjamin School excel during the high school season.

Family Legacy at the Junior Orange Bowl

This year marks Charlie’s inaugural participation in the Junior Orange Bowl. The event has historical significance for the Woods family; Tiger Woods won the boys title in 1991. Charlie is joined in the tournament by other notable young golfers from Palm Beach County, including Cameron Kuchar, who is following in the footsteps of his father, Matt Kuchar.

Looking Ahead

The Junior Orange Bowl is a four-day competition, concluding with the announcement of winners on Tuesday, January 6. Fans and golf enthusiasts anticipate watching Charlie Woods’ performance as he competes with some of the best young talents in the sport.
