UK Music Sales Soared in 2025, Led by Female Artists and Oasis

In 2025, UK music sales experienced significant growth, primarily driven by female artists and iconic bands like Oasis. The rise in vinyl sales continued its upward trajectory, marking the 18th consecutive year of growth.

Key Figures in UK Music Sales

According to recent data, vinyl sales surged by 13% from the previous year, totaling 7.6 million units sold. Over the past decade, the vinyl market has more than doubled, edging closer to overtaking CDs for the first time since the 1990s.

Top Sellers of 2025

  • Taylor Swift: Her album “Life Of A Showgirl” led vinyl sales, while “Lover (Live From Paris)” achieved remarkable success. Released as a limited edition for just 72 hours, it sold 47,000 copies, marking it as the first album in eight years to reach number one solely based on physical sales.
  • CD Sales: Compact disc sales have significantly declined, with 9.7 million units sold in 2025, down from 47.3 million a decade ago.
  • Cassette Sales: Although a niche market, cassette sales also saw a notable increase of 53.8%, reaching 164,491 units. The best-selling cassette of the year was the soundtrack for Robbie Williams’ biopic “Better Man.”

Market Trends

The gap between vinyl and CD sales has narrowed to just 2 million units. This trend indicates a potential shift in consumer preferences, reflecting a growing interest in vinyl as a tangible music medium.

The resurgence in vinyl sales, combined with the prominent role of female artists, highlights the evolving landscape of the UK music industry. As we move forward, industry analysts will keep a close eye on these trends to see how they shape future sales.
