Other regions, including Gimcheon in North Gyeongsang and Jecheon in North Chungcheong, reported morning lows below minus 5 degrees Celsius.

Temperature Forecast for the Weekend

Temperatures are set to rise starting this afternoon, providing some relief from the cold. The daytime temperatures across the country are predicted to range from 5 to 16 degrees Celsius, which is 7 to 8 degrees higher than the average for this time of year.

Winter Rain and Strong Winds Expected

This weekend, a significant winter rain event is anticipated. Rain is expected to begin in the central and Honam regions, as well as the Jeju Island early Saturday. The precipitation will gradually expand across the nation, tapering off by late afternoon.

  • Seoul and surrounding metropolitan areas: Less than 5 mm of rain.
  • Jeju Island: 5 to 20 mm of rain.
  • Jeonnam Coast: 5 to 10 mm of rain.
  • Gwangju, Busan, Ulsan: Approximately 5 mm of rain.

Furthermore, strong wind conditions will affect many areas this weekend. The mountainous regions of Gangwon Province will experience gusts reaching 20 meters per second. Most of the country will see winds of around 15 meters per second.

Precautions for Icy Conditions

As temperatures are expected to drop below freezing again on Sunday, there is a risk of ice forming on roads due to rain accumulation. Citizens are advised to exercise caution while walking or driving to prevent slipping accidents.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has indicated that cold weather will persist into the early next week, with another round of precipitation expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
