Storm System Brings Wind and Rain Thursday Before Calmer Weather Arrives

Western Washington is bracing for one final storm system before a shift to calmer weather. This upcoming storm, while not as intense as the previous one, is expected to bring significant rain and gusty winds on Thursday.

Storm System Details

The final surge of the Pineapple Express will impact the region. This event concentrates its effects closer to the Oregon border, where heavier rain and stronger winds are predicted. In the Seattle area, rain will be present but is expected to taper off by Thursday evening.

Impacted Areas

  • Pacific, Lewis, and Yakima Counties: Anticipated to receive over 3 inches of rain in higher elevations.
  • Seattle and Bellevue: Will experience lighter rain, primarily on the northern edge of the storm.
  • Mount Vernon, Bellingham, and Anacortes: These areas will see lighter and more intermittent rain.

Local authorities are keeping a close watch on river levels south of Seattle, particularly as snow levels at Mount Rainier rise above 7,000 feet.

Wind Advisories and Potential Hazards

Wind advisories are in effect across various regions. The advisory periods vary:

  • Noon to 7 PM: Eastern Kitsap County, downtown Everett/Marysville area, and central King County.
  • Until 11 PM: South Sound, Chehalis Valley, southwest Washington, and Northwest Interior.

Wind speeds may reach up to 50 mph, posing a risk of downed trees and power lines, particularly from weakened trees affected by earlier storms. Power outages are likely in the afternoon and evening hours.

Upcoming Weather Outlook

Conditions are expected to stabilize, though residents can anticipate occasional rain on Friday and Saturday. Longer dry stretches will also occur, but mountain snow will continue intermittently.

Sunday is projected to bring increased moisture, but next week should feature a different weather pattern. The shift will bring colder conditions with passing rain and more mountain snowfall, reducing the risk of river flooding.
