Three NHL Players Waived Ahead of December 15 Deadline

Three NHL players have been placed on waivers ahead of the December 15 deadline, signaling potential changes in their teams. The Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, and Dallas Stars are making notable roster adjustments by waiving goaltender Laurent Brossoit, forward Jonatan Berggren, and defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok respectively.

Players Waived

  • Laurent Brossoit (G) – Chicago Blackhawks
  • Jonatan Berggren (F) – Detroit Red Wings
  • Vladislav Kolyachonok (D) – Dallas Stars

If these players clear waivers on Tuesday, they can be assigned to their respective American Hockey League affiliates.

Jonatan Berggren: A Surprising Move

Jonatan Berggren’s placement on waivers has generated significant discussion. Once viewed as a rising star for the Red Wings, Berggren has struggled this season. In 15 games, he has registered only two goals and four assists, totaling six points.

Last season, the Uppsala native scored 24 points in 75 games. In his 169 NHL appearances, he has achieved 31 goals and 33 assists for a total of 64 points. Berggren is currently under a one-year contract with a cap hit of $1.825 million.

Laurent Brossoit’s Journey Back

Laurent Brossoit was recently recalled from a conditioning stint with the Rockford IceHogs. In three AHL games, he posted a 2-1-0 record, with a 3.39 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. Notably, he scored a goal in a 5-3 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals.

Brossoit signed a two-year deal with the Blackhawks in July 2024, valued at a cap hit of $3.3 million. Despite returning to the ice after multiple surgeries, he remains unable to secure a position on the Blackhawks due to the strong performances of the current goaltenders, Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom.

Vladislav Kolyachonok’s Contributions

Vladislav Kolyachonok has played in 11 games this season for the Dallas Stars, recording one goal and two assists. The 24-year-old defenseman has a plus/minus rating of +3 and averages 12:37 of ice time per game. He is in the last season of a two-year contract with a cap hit of $775,000, which he originally signed with the Utah Mammoth in June 2024.

In total, Kolyachonok has appeared in 85 NHL games, tallying five goals and 12 assists for 17 points.

The waiver placements of these players highlight the NHL’s ongoing roster management, especially as teams prepare for the season’s final stretch.
