Court records indicate she has faced charges in over a dozen cities and towns throughout Rhode Island. Despite her extensive record, the majority of her previous offenses have been non-violent and low-level, primarily involving misdemeanors.

Many legal analysts have noted that judges often viewed her previous offenses as minor misdemeanors, which led to lighter sentencing.
Concerns Over Rehabilitation
Despite multiple arrests, including two speeding tickets this year, Godbout’s struggles with substance abuse have been a recurring theme. She has been court-ordered into substance abuse counseling on seven occasions, with the latest occurring in April. Legal analysts express concerns that the counseling offered has not effectively addressed her issues.
According to Austin Dana, an NBC 10 legal analyst, the lack of substantial rehabilitation programs has allowed Godbout to repeatedly cycle through the legal system. He emphasizes that records like hers are not uncommon, especially among individuals grappling with addiction or mental health challenges.
Godbout is currently in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court facing severe charges, including driving to endanger resulting in death and drug possession with intent to deliver. This case has drawn attention to the broader issues of addiction and the effectiveness of rehabilitative efforts within the criminal justice system.
