Severe Weather Alert: Storm Bram Brings Heavy Rain and Damaging Winds

A severe weather alert has been issued as Storm Bram approaches, promising heavy rain and damaging winds. This storm is set to significantly affect Wales and south-west England.
Storm Bram: Weather Warnings and Expectations
The UK Met Office has released multiple weather warnings in anticipation of Storm Bram. Starting from 18:00 on Monday, these warnings will remain in effect until 18:00 GMT on Tuesday.
Rainfall Projections
- 20-40mm (0.8-1.6 inches) of rain forecasted across many areas.
- Higher elevations, particularly Dartmoor and parts of Wales, may see up to 80mm (3.2 inches).
- There is a potential for localized rainfall to reach 100mm (3.9 inches) in exposed hilly regions.
The extensive rainfall, combined with already saturated ground from previous weeks, raises concerns about localized flooding.
Additional Weather Warnings
In addition to the warnings for the south-west, further yellow warnings have been issued:
- North-west England: Midnight to 15:00 GMT Tuesday.
- Central Scotland: 06:00 to 12:00 GMT Tuesday.
Areas, especially over the Cumbrian hills, could receive substantial rainfall, leading to potential flooding.
Storm Tracking and Future Naming
The primary rain from Storm Bram is projected to clear to the northeast on Tuesday. However, rain and strong winds are expected to persist, particularly in Scotland, through Wednesday.
This storm follows previous storms that impacted the region, including Storm Benjamin and Storm Claudia. The UK Met Office has only named one storm so far—Storm Amy. After Bram, if another storm presents significant impacts, it will be named Chandra.
