Jason Momoa Finds and Uses Long-Lost Beach Boys Amp for New Album

Actor and musician Jason Momoa has recently acquired a notable piece of music history—a Dumble Overdrive Special amplifier originally commissioned for the Beach Boys. This rare amplifier was found by Trevor Boone of Emerald City Guitars after an exhaustive decade-long search.

Discovery of the Long-Lost Beach Boys Amp

The amplifier was discovered on Kauai, Hawaii, where it had been owned by a single individual for nearly 35 years. Boone shared the news through Instagram, stating that the amp was hidden for ten years until the owner decided to part with it. It is crucial to note that this amplifier is one of only three made for the Beach Boys during the early 1980s.

Unique Characteristics

Originally finished in white Tolex, the amp was later covered with carpet to retain its appearance during performances. Boone included original receipts and the Beach Boys road case with the purchase. Jason Momoa expressed his excitement about the amplifier’s unique qualities, noting its extensive history, which includes being used during the Beach Boys’ notable Live Aid performance in 1985.

Momoa’s Connection to the Amplifier

Momoa intends to use this amp solely for music, emphasizing, “There was no question of selling this on.” He views the amplifier as a vital link connecting the past and future of music. Boone, who has helped Momoa find several treasured guitar pieces in the past, believes this amp has a different kind of significance.

Future Plans

  • Momoa plans to incorporate the amplifier in recording sessions for his upcoming album.
  • He expects to start recording in just two days with the amplifier.
  • The actor shared that he has no intentions of selling the amp, stating, “I’m gonna have this motherf*er buried with me!”

In addition to this Dumble amp, Boone hinted that there may be another similar amplifier still unaccounted for, suggesting that collectors might have hope for future discoveries. However, given Momoa’s deep connection and appreciation for this particular piece, it seems unlikely he will part with it anytime soon.
