KRC Genk Lights Up December for De Warmste Week

KRC Genk has launched its campaign to support De Warmste Week with an engaging video. This campaign begins a month-long series of initiatives aimed at raising awareness about invisible illnesses. This year, the focus is specifically on dementia, which affects more people than many realize.
KRC Genk’s Commitment to Dementia Awareness
The CEO of KRC Genk, Luc Hooybergs, emphasized the significance of this year’s campaign. “De Warmste Week is happening in our own town, providing an opportunity for KRC Genk to fully embrace its responsibility as a Limburg brand,” he stated. Hooybergs pointed out that dementia is the leading cause of death in Belgium and is more prevalent among football players than the general population.
Upcoming Events and Initiatives
This campaign includes a variety of actions scheduled throughout December:
- December 2: KRC Genk staff will volunteer at care facilities for individuals with dementia across Limburg.
- December 4: The cast of Restaurant Misverstand will host a special dinner and attend a match against Anderlecht.
- December 14: KRC Genk will hold “De Warmste Wedstrijd” against KV Westerlo, with the first team wearing specially designed shirts.
Supporting the Cause
The club’s main sponsorship partners are actively participating in this initiative. The logos of primary shirt sponsors, including Beobank, Nike, and Carglass, will be temporarily obscured during the match as a symbolic gesture towards dementia awareness.
Several engaging activities are planned leading up to The Warmste Wedstrijd. Board members will pour drinks in the fan zone, and fans can enjoy a special dinner in the business area. Additionally, players will auction personal items following the match.
Collective Efforts from Main Partners
- Wilms: Selling hand warmers for supporters.
- H.Essers: Organizing a contest where fans can compete with players.
- Beobank: Donating €10 for every ticket sold in the “warmest tribune.”
- Starcasinotv: Distributing 3,000 free hoodies in the fan zone.
Special Merchandise for Support
KRC Genk is offering 500 limited edition shirts, available for pre-order through their webshop. All proceeds from these shirts will contribute to De Warmste Week. Moreover, the game-worn shirts will be auctioned off after the match to further support the cause.
Through these initiatives, KRC Genk aims to send a strong societal message: those affected by invisible illnesses are never alone, especially in Limburg. For more information about the various actions of the campaign, fans can visit El-Balad.
