Rutherford County Opens School Choice Applications for 2026–2027

Rutherford County Schools has announced the opening of applications for School Choice programs for the upcoming 2026–2027 academic year. Parents and guardians can now submit their applications from December 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026.

Available Programs

Numerous options are available for families, including academic magnet and open choice programs. Notable schools featured in these choices include:

  • Central Magnet School
  • McFadden School of Excellence
  • Thurman Francis Arts Academy
  • Homer Pittard Campus School
  • International Baccalaureate program at Oakland High School

Additional School Options

Applications for Holloway High School, Rutherford County Virtual School, and local charter schools also opened on December 1 and will stay open throughout the year. The LaVergne High School Early College program has a distinct application window, lasting from December 1, 2025, to March 15, 2026, to facilitate ACT score submissions.

Open Choice Students

Every traditional school in Rutherford County will accept 10 open choice students per institution. Furthermore, a unique dual zone application is available for high school students who were rezoned in the 2025–2026 school year from Blackman, Riverdale, Rockvale, or Smyrna high schools.
