Cher Returns to ‘SNL’ as Musical Guest After Nearly 40 Years

Cher is returning to the “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) stage as the musical guest on December 20, 2025. This marks her first performance on the iconic show in nearly 40 years. Cher’s last appearance as the musical guest was just before Thanksgiving in 1987.
The announcement was made by NBC, which also revealed other hosts and musical guests for the show’s upcoming episodes. Ariana Grande, known for her role in “Wicked: For Good,” will host the December 20 episode alongside Cher. In addition, Melissa McCarthy is scheduled to host on December 6, with Dijon as the musical guest, while Josh O’Connor will lead the December 13 episode, accompanied by Lily Allen.
Cher’s SNL History
Throughout her career, Cher has made several appearances on SNL, most recently in a cameo role in 2011. Earlier this year, she was part of the celebratory concert “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert,” honoring the show’s 50th anniversary.
